iStent is the world’s smallest implantable medical device.
It is safe surgical treatment for glaucoma often performed in combination with cataract extraction. The microscopic “snorkel” is injected into the eye after cataract removal and acts as a conduit for fluid to leave the eye. The iStent bypasses the trabecular meshwork; the part of the eye most affected by glaucoma.
It remains in the eye long term and can provide additional control of glaucoma above and beyond eye drops.
